Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge was established by Teddy Roosevelt in 1903 as the country’s first such refuge. It was created to protect egrets and other birds, which were hunted for the decorative value of their feathers, from extinction.

GOLF

Arnold Palmer designed our championship golf course and said that it was one of his favorites. Visiting pros here always comment on how beautiful and well-kept the course is. Expert instruction is offered by our pros, along with weekly men’s and women’s days, as well a variety of events throughout the year. The course is enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels and also offers excellent practice facilities.

BEACH & WATER ACTIVITIES

The white sand of Orchid Island’s private beach stretches more than a mile along the Atlantic. That means plenty of room to stroll, fish, relax, and surf. It might just be the best beach in Vero. Our location between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean makes Orchid Island a fantastic place for kayaking as well.

TENNIS & PICKLEBALL

Orchid Island boasts eight Har-Tru courts. We offer a variety of programs for adults and children, individual instruction from our pros and a regular schedule of events such as round robins and clinics. We are also home to two new pickleball courts! Known as the fastest growing sport in the country, it’s less demanding than tennis, but every bit as much fun.

FITNESS, PHYSICAL THERAPY & SPA

Here at Orchid Island, we have state-of-the-art equipment to build lean muscle and cardio fitness and offer more than 35 group exercise classes, including Pilates, yoga, and spinning. Licensed personal trainers tailor individualized programs for members, and our spa offers a generous menu of services such as rejuvenating facials, exfoliating body treatments,and deep tissue massages.

FLORIDA’S LARGEST PROFESSIONAL THEATER

A professional, not-for-profit live theater that rivals Broadway, Riverside Theatre offers close to 300 performances each year. Performances range from musicals and plays to classes and lectures. The actors love it, too, because they get to spend part of the year in Vero Beach!

VERO BEACH MUSEUM OF ART

A world-class museum and sculpture garden that also offers lectures, classes and film. It features continuously changing exhibitions on loan from other museums and collectors around the country.

MCKEE BOTANICAL GARDEN

McKee Botanical Gardens is an 80-acre tropical hammock developed by two entrepreneurial land developers in 1932.These famous gardens were designed by William Lyman Phillips, from the esteemed firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed New York City’s Central Park and is considered the father of American landscape architects. It offers an outstanding collection of waterlilies, orchids and native ornamental plants organized around a network of streams, ponds and trails and features a changing set of exhibits and special events.

Vero Beach’s local hospital is part of the world-famous Cleveland Clinic, which is rated along with the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins as one of the top hospital organizations in the country and the world. All homeowners are required to join the Community Association, which maintains areas within the community such as roadways, open areas, landscaped areas and access control. The Community Association provides these services instead of the Town of Orchid. Annual Association dues are allocated equally among residents, reflecting their equal use of the common areas, rather than being allocated based on property value.
